Hello and Happy Autumn,
Erin Rose (aka Dr. Turner) here again with the Populace Wellness quarterly newsletter. Not too many updates this time around so here goes:
First, the October-December availability is officially posted. Please feel welcome to book your appointments through December. It looks wide open now but tends to fill up weeks in advance, so I recommend booking ahead. You can subscribe to this blog to get notifications when the next round of scheduling opens/when a newsletter is posted. As always, returning patients are welcome to text for help with scheduling if needed. Sometimes there are appointments available that can’t be seen online, so it never hurts to ask (541) 521-3090. Also, you can text the word “waitlist” for that option. As a reminder, availability is released quarterly meaning, January – March 2024 availability will be released near the end of December.

Next, as most of you know by now, there is a price increase coming to all cash/TOS/out-of-pocket services in 2024. This is a long-planned rate change that will reflect the combination of being a dual-licensure practice and the ongoing decade of experience behind it. Populace stayed at an LMT/single modality rate for more than a year after adding chiropractic, waiting to implement this increase until the combination therapy provided here was established and seasoned by experience. Unlike the one rate increase Populace has had in the past, this change will not be a basic percentage considering inflation etc. Instead, under the guidance of both an accountant and CPA, a rate will be chosen that reflects the current services and skills offered, and also allows Populace Wellness the sustainability to continue all current low-income/social programs; for the long haul. If you currently pay for out-of-pocket care, anytime between now and 2024 is your chance to enjoy the lower rate.

Populace Wellness priorities during this rate change assessment are to:
- Always be able to afford to accept CHP Kaiser, as a means of providing accessible care to the Portland Public School teachers and social workers who carry it.
- Always be able to offer a low-income program throughout the year.
- Have the time, energy and resources to volunteer 2-3x a year for no-cost events supporting the “low to no-income” communities of Portland.
—
Populace Wellness aims for these goals, all while working to reliably provide beneficial care to all patients, including those who don’t fall into any of the above categories. Cancellation fees and appointment deposits will stay intentionally low in order to remain financially accessible to diverse populations in Portland, OR. I never want to “get you with the fees”.
And finally, we all know that this season includes potential travel, possible storms and whatever else life brings so please give as much notice as you can with appointment changes. Everyone gets 1 “free” last-minute cancellation, and then the $25 fee starts after that. The smoothest option is just to reschedule if you’d like to come in again. Again, feel free to text if you don’t find any availability on the scheduler or if you need help with rescheduling. I can’t guarantee a spot but we can look at options.
Well, to wrap it up I’ll say, this season is one of my great loves here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We have rain, fog, sun, wind, clarity, you name it. I’ve never found the topic of weather boring, and Portland provides plenty to appreciate. I know a lot of people who prefer the sun times and to those I say, please try not to be too bowled over by my enthusiasm for Fall, and these most recent attempts to have a great one. If Humpty Dumpty can do it, so can we.

*I chose “Papyrus” as the bullet point font because it’s also the name of a hilarious SNL sketch. Unfortunately, the website blog won’t allow it in formatting. However if you haven’t seen Papyrus and enjoy sketch comedy, I cannot recommend it enough. If you don’t like it, well I cannot help you in life haha.
